STIMULATING | UI/UX

How I Started

I started approaching website design and interactive design when I was in college. I worked at the Outreach Information Services office of Virginia Tech to design images for different websites, and also interned at New City, a local web design company in Blacksburg. I've always been interested in psychology, so I took a few classes while in college. Later on, I found the new design field called UI/UX, which combines graphic design, website design, interactive design and psychology that I'm so familiar with and have passion for. I decided to open the door and step into the new world. I began to take online classes, read books and watch to learn about UI/UX.

Implementing The Knowledge in Real Life

I started working as a marketing manager in 2022, and my responsibilities not only include designing all the signage and promotional collaterals, setting up for promotional programs and events, but also explain to each cafe about the different programs we are running, so I can manage and ensure each station displays the signage/marketing materials correctly.

I have to deal with more than 40 stations across four buildings in two states, so things get crazy at times. I decided to create "Monthly Program Calendar" and "Design System" files to help organizing necessary file templates across campuses. Since the company started using Google Slides as the main tool to create signage templates, I followed the tradition and continued the usage of this easily sharable and collaborative tool.

By granting each station a unique branding, then organizing all the templates files each station is using, newcomers can easily learn and pick up how we utilize the templates.

The calendar is designed to show icons representing different promotional programs and events. The culinary teams also greatly rely on the calendars as a reminder for them to plan ahead.

Google UX Certificate Course

Here are 3 projects that I have done within the time I took Google's UX Certificate Coursera course: "MOOD", "O-Pass" and "SimplyCool". "MOOD"  "O-Pass" is the ordering app for O-Pass Tea House that allows customers to place group orders including customized drinks quick and easy. "SimplyCool" is a website that also offers a mobile app for customers to browse through the online catalog of the furniture company. I picked an existing website to revamp.
